Submitted by Jackie K.This picture is from the 2012 Spintronix Color Guard and Leadership Weekend Camp held in Mountain View, Mo. We have touched the lives of so many students who might not have otherwise been able to afford to attend a camp where they could learn from instructors who have DCI-level experience! This year we had students from 12 different high schools in attendance, and our internship program for college students has doubled in size. As you can see, our Spintronix family just keeps growing. The top photo is all of our instructors who marched and met somehow or another through DCI. Front row: Monica S. (Music City), Greg S. (Blue Stars, Phantom Regiment, Memphis Sound), Merideth T. (Glassmen, Memphis Sound), Doug S. (Colts), and Pam C. (Colts). Back row: Brittany W. (Memphis Sound), Mike T. (Bluecoats), Jen B. (Chops, Blue Stars), Samantha B. (Memphis Sound), camp director Jackie K. (Blue Stars, Memphis Sound), and Erica H. (Memphis Sound). The lower picture is all of the students, interns, and instructors who attended our fourth annual Spintronix Weekend Camp. We hope to keep growing and providing excellent opportunities for young students like those provided to us through our respective drum and bugle corps!

Submitted by Seth G.As the Vanguard is bringing back music from Gustav Holst’s The Planets in 2012, I was happy to find this shot that I took in 1980 in Birmingham, Ala. Santa Clara Vanguard’s seventh-place 1980 production included the fourth movement of The Planets, “Jupiter, the Bringer of Jollity.”

From the Drum Corps World archive. In 1981 the Boston Crusaders took to the field with a production featuring a wide-variety of musical styles including pieces by Modest Mussorgsky, Chick Corea and the Manhattan Transfer. Rounding out the program was the corps’ trademark, “Conquest” from the score of the swashbuckling film “Captain from Castille.” The piece by Academy Award-winning composer Alfred Newman, has been a staple in the corps’ programming for decades.
